Evelyn Glennie has been profoundly deaf since age 12, meaning that she has some very limited hearing. Nevertheless, she has established herself as one of the world's top solo percussionists. Glennie has won many awards for her playing, including a Grammy for her recording of Bela Bartok's Sonata for two Pianos and Percussion. She has melded traditions and instrumentation from around the world to create new ways of performing. The legendary improviser, composer and guitarist Fred Frith is among a handful of players who changed guitar improvising forever.
