Known as the "Queen of the Afro-Peruvian Lando," Ayllon is a superstar in her native Peru and the leading exponent of Peruvian musica criolla, a vibrant array of poetic folkloric styles with both African and Spanish origins. Eclipsed in the international scene by her countrymate Susanna Baca, Ayloln is actually the more popular singer back at home in Peru, considered a national treasure. Ayllon and her talented sextet present a blend of driving rhythms representing the irresistible music of black Peru, such as lando, festejo and alcatraz. In 2003, with more than 20 hit albums in a star-studded career spanning a quarter century, Eva Ayllon is considered by many as the most important interpreter of Peruvian music.
