The Estrogenius Festival, one of New York City’s largest women’s arts festival, kicks off its ninth annual season October 1. Running through November 1 at Manhattan Theatre Source (177 MacDougal Street), the festival presents a diverse array of short plays, solo shows, dance, visual art, music, performances by teens and a benefit for girls’ education in Africa.
The ninth annual EstroGenius Festival is anchored by four programs of short plays. Program Three includes:
CANYON’S EDGE by Barbara Lindsay, directed by Sandra Alexander
Starring: Carla Brandberg, Tom Godfrey & Bonnie Swencionis
At the Grand Canyon, an older couple comfort a young woman as she deals with the great wide open.
MANEATER by Janet Zarecor, directed by Dev Bondarin
Starring: Sabrina Farhi & Joe Mathers
In this biting comedy, internet dating can be so deadly.
BUY & BUY by Pamela Monk, directed by Irene Carroll
Starring: Seth Austin*, Amanda Bruton, Sean Gormley*,
A pregnant puppeteer attempts to buy her baby's future, but gets more than she bargained for in this clever comedy.
TURTLE BEACH by Aoise Stratford, directed by Kelly R. Haydon
Starring: Barbara Mundy* & Christiane Seidel
Two turtles make the long journey to give birth at sea.
FREEFALL by Char Nelson, directed by Saundra Yaklin
Starring: Mark McCullough Thomas & Allison Plamondon*
Out west, a separated couple's relationship continues its freefall.
