Ever since we fell in love with "We Made This Ourselves," the great debut from Essie Jain that came out a few months ago, we've been trying to get her to play at Sound Fix. Jain is a New Yorker but comes by the British folk feel of her music naturally as a native Londoner. Multitracking gorgeous vocal harmonies over sparsely layered instrumental tracks that can be as starkly beautiful as a droning cello and viola (think John Cales arrangements for Nico), shes a musical descendent of Vashti Bunyan (with a hint of Sandy Denny on the many piano-based songs); the best current comparison would be Cat Power in her quietest moments. Perfect for a Saturday afternoon!
