El Paso Community College will celebrate readers, writers and books during its third annual “Literary Fiesta” scheduled for Friday and Saturday, September 23 and 24 in Building A at the college’s Administrative Services Center, 9050 Viscount.
FRIDAY EVENT
5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23. Opening reception, award presentation and readings by RJ Devera and Mauricio Rodriguez. Presentation: EPCC “Literary Legacy” to Luis Alberto Urrea, Pulitzer Prize nominee and nationally-recognized writer and educator.
SATURDAY ALL DAY FIESTA
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Children’s Storytelling Corner. Free Books for all Children
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. “Barbed Wire” open microphone tent. Share your work with others.
10:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m Readings from books by Sergio Troncoso and J.L. Powers.
11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m Adventures in the Graphic Novel: Hellboy storyboard artist Simeon Wilkins, facilitated by Jon Castañeda, comic book artist.
1:00 - 2:45 p.m. Conversation with Luis Alberto Urrea, facilitated by Patty Tiscareño.
3:00 - 4:30 p.m. EPCC’s readings by Ysella Ayn Fulton, Lawrence Welsh and Richard Yáñez. Special presentation by “Community Spirit” Award to Books are GEMS.
Also, there will be book sellers, food, arts & crafts and vendors. Admission is FREE and open to the public. The fiesta is sponsored by the Literary Fiesta Committee, the EPCC President’s “Salute to the Arts,” Books are GEMS and PaPaGaYo Literary Center.
