Enterprise Architecture: The Need for a New Psychology

AGENDA:
5:30-6:00 pm Socializing
6:00-8:00 pm Presentation and Discussion
Everyone agrees that enterprise architecture is a complicated beast. Today a growing number of forces are pounding on businesses and society, profoundly impacting the culture of architecture teams as well as the mental and physical well-being of their team members. Without caring for the culture, a team blessed with fantastic architects can still encounter solution roadblocks. In this discussion, Mr. Friedman ties aspects of William Glasser's "Choice Theory", Jim Collins' "Built to Last" and "Good to Great", and some principles of the Positive Coaching Alliance to create a set of core values that lay the foundation of a flourishing architectural culture (with healthy architects!). You will see how a stronger "sense of team" is created that helps to bridge communication gaps between "siloed" business units as well as gaps between business and IT. This "new psychology" suggests a series of important mindset changes that will ultimately lead to more mental energy and enthusiasm in the architects and the domain experts with whom they work. That in turn stimulates teamwork, innovation, the creation of superior architectures, and greater satisfaction in a job well done.
Three things to take away:
* A better understanding of the forces working for and against the psyche of architects and their teams.
* Some proven techniques for managing a more positive, team-oriented culture of business domain experts and architects.
* Clearer insights into an architect's attitude helping you to understand what energizes and motivates the architect and the architecture team to perform at higher levels.
