Hard on the heels of their tremendously successful, sold-out hip-hop chamber opera, "Great Integration", summer and fall Bay Area tour and CD release, JooWan Kim and Ensemble Mik Nawooj have announced Music For the Integrated World: A Hybrid Music Series. The concert features new music by composers JooWan Kim and Jacob Bertrand, and performers include Kim, vocalist Christopher Nicholas and clarinetist Ricki Nelson in the groundbreaking, genre-blurring style of hybrid music that has brought Kim and Ensemble Mik Nawooj to the attention of legends like Ahmad Jamal.
The program includes "S for Solitude", "Sorrow and Sophia" (for solo piano),3 pieces for piano, bass and jazz voice (with vocalist Christopher Nicholas), musical excerpts from the play "James Baldwin: Down From the Mountaintop" (for string quartet), Etude for clarinet and string quartet, bass, and clarinet by Jacob Bertrand, "Apatheia" for string quartet and bass, and "Ataraxia" for string quartet, bass, and piano. Completing the program will be a special screening of Black Swordsman Part 2 music video and short Q & A session directors Pete Paduano and Garret Franz. This screening marks the official launch of production of the film Great Integration: A Chamber Hip-Hop Opera. All music is composed by JooWan Kim except where noted.
Tickets available at the door.
