UNBOUND: Festival of American Chamber Music This four-part festival, presented in spring 2011, is designed to celebrate the imagination and skill of contemporary American composers, observing the contributions of master composers as well as the new generation of emerging American masterpieces. Each concert is thematically sculpted, allowing the listened to follow a distinct musical concept as it relates to the identity of ‘American’ music. Part One: COLORS featuring Axiom Brass Quintet George Crumb (b.1929): Vox Balanae (1971) for three masked players: electric flute, electric cello, and amplified piano Augusta Read Thomas (b.1964): Capricious Angels (2009) for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, 3 violins, and viola Joshua Fineberg (b.1969): Broken Symmetries (2000-01) for flute, clarinet, horn, violin, cello Jacob Druckman (1928-96): Dance With Shadows (1989) for brass quintet Kirsten Broberg (b.1979): The Waters of Time (2009) song cycle for soprano voice, flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, and percussion
