Title: Energy Options for Idaho
As the winds of change sweep Washington, is Idaho immune? Alternative energy, particularly wind energy, has been an economic opportunity for Washington, Oregon and Colorado. Travelers on I 84 see the daily shipment of wind turbine parts, manufactured in facilities in the MidWest on their way to wind farms in Oregon. In this talk, we'll look at Idaho's past and future, particularly in terms of electrical generation.
About the Speaker:
Dr. John F. Gardner joined the faculty at Boise State in the summer of
2000, after 13 years of teaching at Penn State. He received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cleveland State University in 1981 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Ohio State in 1983 and 1987, respectively. He taught a short course in mechatronics at the University of Cairo, Egypt and worked for two years on the staff at the University of Delaware.
At Boise State he teaches courses and conducts research in dynamics,
mechatronics, and robotics. He is currently working on a new textbook on computer simulation techniques and research projects dealing with rapid response robotic telescopes and biomimetic robotic propulsion. (Read the story about Dr. Gardner's study of dolphin propulsion.)
