We are happy to introduce Lisa Mei Ling Fong’s solo exhibition of new works “Encompass” to San Francisco’s Gallery Three on Valentine’s Day. This show features 25 of her 118 Introversion Boxes made of assembled artifacts and personal collections of relics from around the world.
Lisa Mei Ling Fong has been in major transition. Having spent the last two years moving from Seattle to New York City to Vermont back to New York City again to San Francisco to Berkeley and finally back to San Francisco. “I have changed cities as many times as I have changed careers and the reflections of what I have been going through is expressed in my Introversion Boxes.” When looking at Lisa Mei Ling Fong’s signature Introversion Boxes, the first question that comes to mind is where did she acquire such beautiful gothic, Edwardian objects. They speak personally, as if made for some long lost friend or lover. Preserved in an antique box of memories and artifacts from her world travels, each work of art is a microcosm of the macrocosm of nature.
Lisa Mei Ling Fong works as the Properties Intern at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and represented by Strychnin Gallery Berlin/New York City/London. Her Eerie Art projects are a reflection of her works in technical theatre building of sets and props, along with her previous career as a travel agent. She says her inspiration comes from people, the significance of a string of events, adventures, personal growth, hardships, a desire to mark history, mortality and human existence. The titles of each piece lend the viewer insight into motivation of the Introversion Box. Some themes include:  Bread of Life (growth in spirituality), Embrace of the Night Sky (finding balance/partnership), Childhood Dreams (Family), and Continuum (a metamorphosis).
We look forward to premiering Lisa Mei Ling Fong at Gallery Three in her first San Francisco exhibit "Encompass". The show will be on view beginning February 14th and run till March 10th 2009. Opening reception is Valentines Day, Saturday February 14th from 7-10pm, and open to the public. Please call to make an appointment to view her work due to varying business hours.
