The eight-time Grammy-winning Emerson String Quartet performs the West Coast premiere of a Lively Arts co-commission by MacArthur “Genius Award” winner Bright Sheng, in which the Chinese/American composer eloquently fuses the western classical tradition with Chinese influences. It is featured alongside the Bay Area premiere of Terra Memoria by acclaimed Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, Béla Bartók’s String Quartet No. 3, and two works—String Quartet No. 3 and Madrigals for Violin and Viola—by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu.
