There are stories in everything we do, and a history to everything we touch. None of these dramas exist separately, they are layered and ingrained endlessly. All this historical lamina builds the beautiful and tragic mythos that we identify as the human condition.

The collaborative team, Isobel Milena, and the Brazilian artist Elka Amorim, each explore in both form and content the nature of Embedded Narratives.

Whether utilizing the schizophrenic feminine presence in our recorded history to convey timeless personal narrative; or illuminating fable to relate parallels and intersections of vastly diverse world legends, these artists bring together unexpected and seemingly irreconcilable elements into an alluring whole.

Elka's work reads openly as diary and record of dreams. Her visions weave suburban subtext, religious fetish, and gilded romance to create a collective female memory.

Isobel extracts inspiration from resurrection myths, piecing together objects and mediums that revive powerful artifacts of the past. Using motifs from the Victorian era, they juxtapose mythological symbols with images of savage moments in nature.

Pushing collage, montage and assemblage to the boundaries of their definition, Elka and Isobel layer visual languages and materials to construct their own allegorical tales. The result begs conversation regarding the fragmented nature of humanity’s ever-evolving identity.
