WHY SHOULD YOU RECYCLE YOUR OLD ELECTRONICS?
>Electronic waste, or "e-waste," is one of the fastest
growing segments
of the municipal waste stream. When e-waste ends up
in the landfill or
incinerator, hazardous substances such as lead and
mercury end up in
our water and our food supply.
>E-waste now accounts for as much as 40 percent of the
lead in U.S. landfills.
>The cathode ray tube in a single computer monitor
contains 3-5 pounds of lead!

Unfortunately, New York City has no official program
in place to isolate these materials from the
residential waste stream. Recycle This! is one of a
few groups of activists working to bring an
eco-friendly alternative to New Yorkers.

WHERE WILL THE ELECTRONICS GO?
To Per Scholas, a nonprofit organization in the South
Bronx with three primary goals: bring computers to
technologically deprived children and families at the
lowest possible cost, train disadvantaged community
residents to become computer technicians, and provide
environmentally responsible recycling of end-of-life
computer equipment in their EPA Approved Recycling

Smaller items like CDS, batteries and crayons will be
recycled through event co-host 3R Living, who also
extends this service to in-store customers at their

WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED ON OCTOBER 23RD?
Working and non-working computers servers, monitors,
printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, TVs (no
wooden consoles please), keyboards, mice, cables,
docking stations, battery backups, storage devices,
routers, radios, phones, cell phones, stereo
equipment, CD players, microwaves, ink cartridges,
CDs, batteries, floppy & Zip Disks, tapes, CD & DVD
Media and Crayons.
Working cell phones will be donated to women?s
shelters if accompanied by a charger.
