Elders' Guild and Elderfire Institute present a workshop for people of any age who are engaged in the process of conscious aging for the greater good. Presented on the Autumn Equinox, the Wisdom Path is a day for harvesting and integrating our life experiences and transforming our experience into wisdom. As elders, we will explore how we as individuals and as a community are the living, caring, preserving bridge between our ancestors and our grandchildren’s future.
We will share in small groups how we want to manifest our purpose, our passions, and our wisdom at the wise elder stage of our lives. Through self-reflection, visualization, storytelling, music, movement, poetry and myth we will practice the wisdom arts of balancing the known with the unknown, and solitude with the need for community. Finally, we will engage in a ceremony that honors taking on the mantle of the wise elder.
You will leave with an Elders' Wisdom Tool Chest:
Enhanced communication skills for listening and speaking from the heart
Ability to make peace with mistakes and regrets
How to be more conscious, awake and alive in our daily lives
An appreciation of what grows in the life of an elder and what falls away
Experiencing the joy and challenges of the wise elder
More about Wisdom Paths:
Our wisdom work as elders in our generation is to recognize and harvest the wisdom embedded in our years and to put it to the service of those whom we treasure. The Elders Guild will establish a Wisdom Tradition that will support us as we do deep learning in the areas of our lives where the need for wisdom and understanding is greatest. The Wisdom Tradition will have a number of paths, including healing and dying, karma fixing, change making, relationship healing, managing our resources, consciousness exploration and fun and games.Universities and other learning organizations are organized to support, sustain and nurture the activities of young people to prepare them for what lies ahead. Our Guild Learning Communities will be places where elders rigorously engage our most vital concerns not just to prepare for ourselves as elders, but also for the benefit of the entire generational continuum of families and communities. Our vision is that the wisdom of the elders will emerge to raise the level of collective enlightenment throughout society. Elders cross all lines of ethnicity, religion, economics, and culture and we can form the common paths of wisdom and understanding in realms where today we can only see differences. The fruit of our learning will provide the connective tissue between the heritage of the past and the creation of a decent and meaningful legacy for the future as we make the present more purposeful.

I'm looking forward to participating in this Elders' Guild Wisdom Path workshop at the Berkeley JCC this Sunday (the first in a series), and invite soupsters to join me. The agenda overlaps with the Senior Cohousing "Study Group 1" curriculum, so it can be helpful for anyone considering Aging In Community options such as Cohousing or Beacon Hill Village model neighborhood organizing. I hope to see some of you there!
