On Saturday, October 31, business owners in San Pedro's Historic Downtown will host a block-party celebration of the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Latin- American commemoration dating back more than 3,000 years, celebrating the lives of ancestors long gone, but never forgotten. The holiday enjoys a strong cultural significance in the community.
The highly anticipated family event will take place from 3pm to 10pm on 6th and 7th Streets between Pacific Avenue and Centre Street. Along with a colorful traditional procession, Mariachis, folkloric Aztec dancers, altar displays in memory of deceased family and friends, children's crafts, face painting and art shows will be among the multiple activities. A special area will be set aside for legendary fire remembrance pits.
Motivated by the success of last year's event, when more than 2000 attended, San Pedro's downtown merchants will be offering special sales items, tempting foods and enchanting displays of arts and crafts, including the traditional Catrina/Catrin figurines by Mexican artisans.
They look forward to welcoming all who attend. For more information, visit http://www.diadelosmuertossanpedro.com/
