Crash Course, Part One
In just eight weeks, students will learn the foundation of Chicago-style improv in this fun and challenging eight-week class. Classes will begin with short-form games, skill-building exercises and related acting exercises designed to help students explore their improv environment. The games and exercises will help performers develop and hone their craft, while learning the basics of character development and building relationships.
Learn about truth in comedy, the necessity of specificity, "Yes, and..." and supporting fellow actors on stage. By week eight, we will begin to explore Harold, a long-form improv piece developed by the late Del Close. Scenes don't necessarily have to be comedic, but exploring and having fun is a prerequisite.
The YES! Lab’s purpose is to help develop the most well-rounded and well-prepared improvisers that Denver has ever seen. Students who leave The YES! Lab will be able to handle anything that comes their way on stage and off, as the rules of improvisation relate directly to life.
Improv is a performance-based art form, but at The YES! Lab, we are devoted to showing you how the simple act of saying YES!, the cornerstone of all improvisation, is applicable to your everyday life. You need not be a performer or someone with any thoughts of being on stage to do improv. Anyone can do this!
The YES! Lab’s instructors have the most training you’ll find anywhere in Denver. With a deep dedication to the craft, our instructors have accumulated training from The Second City Chicago, iO, iO West, The Annoyance Theater and The Wisconsin Theater Games Center. A combined total of 69 years of improv training and performing experience ensures that each student will receive exceptional guidance in regards to improv history, theory, form and application. We encourage each student to explore every avenue of improvisation as well as all that interests them about the craft in order to evolve into a well-rounded improvisational actor.
