Edward Albee’s classic play, Seascape June 4, 2010

SEASCAPE, PULITZER PRIZE WINNER BY EDWARD ALBEE, AT TCL
The Theater Company of Lafayette (TCL) presents Edward Albee’s classic play, Seascape, June 4 – 26. Seascape, for which Albee was awarded his second Pulitzer Prize in 1975, is a funny, touching play. Clive Barnes of the New York Times wrote this about the work: "It is a curiously compelling exploration into the basic tenet of life. It is asking in a lighthearted but heavy-minded fashion whether life is worth living. It decides that there is no alternative."
The play is a comedy about an older couple facing retirement. While vacationing on a sand dune, they discuss their relationship and uncertain future. Eventually, they are joined by a most unusual couple, a pair of evolving sea creatures. Initially suspicious of each other, the two couples eventually find strong and lasting connections as they realize they are all evolving.
Says TCL Artistic Director Madge Montgomery, who is directing the production, “Though the play deals with serious themes such as loneliness and death, it is filled with humor, witty dialogue, and lightness. Albee clearly has deep affection for his characters, and it is an intensely optimistic play.” Adds Montgomery, “The production started as sort of a present to the many wonderful, mature character actors who work with us so frequently here at TCL.”
Performances of Seascape are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, June 13 at 2 p.m. All performances are at the historic Mary Miller Theater, 300 E. Simpson Street, Lafayette. The cast of Seascape includes long-time TCL favorites Tim Englert, Ian Gerber, and Mary Secor. Completing the cast, in her first appearance at TCL, is popular Denver-area actor Sheri Davis.
