As part of the new monthly Fourth Friday event beginning June 23 in Campus Martius, the Edgewise artist collective will fill the empty windows along Woodward Avenue between Campus Martius and Grand Circus Park with an art exhibit. Woodward Avenue will temporarily become the Avenue of the Arts.
Edgewise focuses on artists that may not be part of the gallery scene and gives the art community another way to showcase their work as well as create fun events that draw people downtown.
This latest Edgewise exhibit will feature the work of many artists including Rachel DeLux, photographer Paul Von Schadd , James Dozier, Carl Oxley III, Tracy Brown, Bryant Tillman, JD Davis, Rick Lieder, Dave Lingle and Marica Henne.
Photographer Paul Von Schadd was a fixture in Detroit’s goth scene during the days of clubs like Ascension UK and The Labyrinth in the late 90s. Today he is known as The Master of Light.
Marcia Henne was born at the end of the rustbelt in Saginaw. Her work is often filled with satirical social commentary. She has worked on several series including Sin, her interpretation of the Seven Deadly Sins, and Kin, her work about the memories of her often peculiar family.
James Dozier is a well-known multimedia artist and a fixture in the gallery scene of Detroit whose weekly what’s-on newsletter is a must-have for any serious art lover.
Visitors to the exhibit can pick up a map for a self-guided walking tour from the Edgewise booth at Campus Martius. After the exhibit, an afterglow party follows at Cliff Bells co-hosted by Model D with a meet and greet for the artists and live jazz music. $5 cover. 21+ are welcome.
