Agility was officially introduced in England at the Crufts Dog Show in 1979, and has since captured the hearts of dogs, and dog lovers, worldwide. As spectators and participants alike have discovered the speed, the grace and the out-and-out excitement of this sport, agility has become so popular that it is now a regular feature on television, and has grown to embrace national and international competitions. Agility is a highly competitive sport, but it is also much more. Most dogs and people can do agility. Many agility dogs do our sport simply for recreation and exercise. It can be used for physical conditioning, and therapy for injured dogs, and to build confidence and coordination. It shapes a bond between a dog and a human that is unmatched by any other training, and training is the key. Agility dogs are some of the best trained, and best conditioned, of the canines, with many being true athletes in their own right. The benefits of agility may seem to be endless, but the first and foremost reason for doing it is always the same, it is fun, and it is fun for both of you. It is the most fun you could possibly have with your dog.
