Get excited for springs most colorful canine event featuring Dallas finest fashionista pooches! Celebrating its 23rd anniversary this year, the Turtle Creek Associations Easter in the Park event featuring the hilarious Pooch Parade and Costume Contest, is slated for Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Lee Park, located at Turtle Creek Boulevard and Lemmon Avenue. The event is from 12:45 p.m. 5 p.m. (with registration for the Pooch Parade beginning at 11 a.m.) with a live concert of light classical music by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m.
The beloved family-oriented celebration, which typically attracts 10,000 12,000 attendees, is Dallas largest annual outdoor event and is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to bring blankets and picnic lunches or may dine on a wide variety of State-Fair-type foods, such as corn dogs and funnel cakes. The event benefits Turtle Creek Association, a 501 (c) (3) organization whose primary focus is to enhance, preserve and protect the Turtle Creek Corridor.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. for dogs of every size and breed for the Pooch Parade and Costume Contest. The entry fee is $10 per dog per category, listed as follows: Best Big Dog, Best Little Dog, Best Dressed Dog and Best Owner/Pet Look-A-Like Dog.
The festivities officially kick off at 12:45 p.m. with the SPCA of Dallas Parade of Adoptable Dogs, followed by the Pooch Parade and Costume Contest at 1 p.m. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra performs in its own outdoor band shell at 3 p.m. The event closes at 5 p.m.
Admission is free. Street parking is also free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. It is advisable that guests park away from the park and walk in on the Katy Trail or from a neighboring area.
