Artist reception Saturday, August 6, 6-8PM; exhibit runs August 2-31

Market Street Gallery is pleased to present Earthly Venture, an exhibition showcasing the latest paintings by Bonnie Cunningham illustrating a deeply personal and creatively adventurous transition from Baltimore to San Francisco. The exhibit will open August 2, 2011, and run through August 31, 2011. The artist reception will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011, from 6 PM - 8 PM.

When Bonnie Cunningham paints, she depicts the episodes of her life and poses them in a unique world that she created. Instead of a literal translation, she is more interested in framing a realm that fully embodies the entire aspect of her being and experience. She pulls inspiration from dreams, feelings, friends, and all that continues to shape the course of her Earthly Venture.

The Earthly Venture series began with Bonnie Cunningham's farewell to Baltimore and flowed through her journey from the east coast to San Francisco. It captures many of the significant events in her life during this transition period. These pieces helped her to sort through some difficult times, from leaving everyone she knows, moving to a city where she had no home, no job and no friends or family, to getting sick and losing the hearing in her right ear. Since leaving her home last year (2010), she has had many adventures and a lot of self-reflection, which is why this body of work is focused on her... and the physical and mental journey she had undertaken.
