It’s our 20th birthday and the 40th anniversary of Earth Day! Come to HANC and help celebrate! This year we’re exploring the theme, EATING GREEN: FOOD FOR THOUGHT. The event starts at 9 am with a fundraising pancake breakfast by FORHANC (Friends of Roseville’s Harriet Alexander Nature Center), featuring wild rice or buttermilk pancakes and wild rice sausages. They’ll be doing a light lunch service as well featuring those same delicious wild rice sausages and more. More details are on their website, www.forhanc.org.
Family-friendly free exhibits, activities and entertainment start at 10 am and continue until 2:30 pm when we cut and serve the birthday cake. Highlights include free stuff including lots of garden seeds generously donated by Linder’s Garden Center, free craft activities, a Recycled Art show by Parkview Center School students, free drawings for great prizes including a brand new 55 gallon rain barrel, courtesy of the City of Roseville, plus the annual Walking Parade and tree planting. Half Price Books will be here encouraging recycling books as will Crazy Boy Farms, a new CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) that will be using HANC as their Roseville drop-off site this season.
In the parking lot we will be accepting certain things for free recycling: fluorescent light bulbs (day of event only, please), eyeglasses, printer cartridges, plastic flower pots, and plastic bottle caps. Please note the plastic bottle caps must be the rigid screw-on type of caps such as found on pop and water bottles and certain other containers. If uncertain please call the number below for more information. We are not accepting any other kind of plastic for recycling.
As usual, this will be a Zero Waste Event, with Eureka! Recycling helping sort any waste into compost, recycling, and trash containers.
