Mystic Aquarium is throwing a party for the planet, and you’re invited! During the Earth Day celebration on April 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., drop off items ranging from clothing and shoes to cell phones and light bulbs during the recycling drive. Educational activities created by the Youth Conservation Core – a group of high school students who serve as ambassadors for the aquarium and its public conservation programs – include an aquarium-wide scavenger hunt which participants will begin by creating a passbook from recycled materials to collect stamps; a pledge station where guests can create a magnet containing an Earth-friendly pledge; boat race featuring boats made from recycled materials by guests; and interactive games focusing on recycling and rainforest conservation.
Guests will also help select the winner of the aquarium’s second annual Scrap Art Sculpture contest, featuring marine-themed art created from recycled materials by community members. The winner will be announced on April 25.
All activities are free with aquarium admission.
