Come celebrate Earth Day at the 23rd annual Earth Day Celebration at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center (HANC) on Saturday, April 20, 2013! The family-friendly, free event is presented by Half Price Books, with additional sponsorship by the Friends of Roseville's Harriet Alexander Nature Center (FORHANC). The day starts at 9 am with informative exhibits, activities and entertainment both in the building and out in the parking lot. At 2:00 Kinderberry Hill will present “The Great Kapok Tree,” and at 2:15 we’ll start our popular Walking Parade and Tree Planting (sponsored by Kinderberry Hill), in honor of Arbor Day. The day ends with birthday cake for all in attendance to celebrate HANC’s 23rd birthday.
We’re delighted to announce that Flagship Recreation, distributor of Landscape Structures (playground equipment made right here in Minnesota), is sponsoring 100 copies of the 2013 Chinook Book (limit 1 per household)! The Chinook Book is full of lots of great locally-based money-saving coupons. Flagship Recreation will also have activities for kids so be sure to stop at their table. Half Price Books will be giving away those handy reusable tote bags, and you can enter our free drawing for a chance at some great stuff like a compost bin donated by the City of Roseville or bags of birdseed, and more! In the building you can visit the Recycled Art exhibit by students at Parkview Center School and visit with the folks from the Wildcat Sanctuary. Out in the parking lot, Eureka! Recycling will have their recycling truck and Maplewood Toyota will be showing off not one, but three different models of the Prius hybrid car!
As usual, we’ll be collecting certain items for recycling. You can bring old eyeglasses for the Lions Club, used printer cartridges (Cartridge World) and rigid plastic bottle caps to be recycled by Aveda. Please call us at the number below if you need further guidance on recycling the rigid (not squishy) plastic caps. We thank you to please not bring any other plastic items for recycling other than the rigid caps; unacceptable plastic items will be refused at the collection station.
FORHANC will be selling delicious breakfast treats and beverages from 9 – noon (they've chosen not to have a pancake breakfast this year). The Earth Day Celebration is a Zero Waste Event, with guidance by and thanks to Eureka! Recycling and the City of Roseville.
