Earth Day and Resource Fair April 26, 2008

Greener Oconomowoc is a citizen organization working together to learn more about the environment and sustainability.

From 11a.m. to 3 p.m. the First Congregational United Church or Christ will host this second annual event, which features free educational family activities and highlights the many different facets of being "green."

Attendees will find a spread of informational tables hosted by local businesses and groups with educational materials about local green programs, tips on where to shop for green products and how to make homes more energy efficient.

There will even be an opportunity to sign up for a free home energy audit. The parking lot will have a variety of electric and alternative fuel vehicles on display from area owners who are offering test drives.

From there, guests can follow their noses to the grills cooking fresh and processed hamburgers. Here folks can compare and contrast the organic type of fresh meats versus the conventional burger.

If you're still craving more knowledge on going green, don't worry. Throughout the day, speakers will cover a variety of green and environmental topics in half-hour increments, beginning at 11:30 a.m. with a geocaching outdoor treasure hunt administered by Jim Olson of the Oconomowoc Area School District.

Greener Oconomowoc has significantly grown over the past year since the group was first created. There are about 20 to 30 members that currently attend the monthly meeting, according to Wilson-Uhl. Last year at this time, there were only about six members.
