Take a hike back 150 years into a forest filled with possibilities for the new state California. Learn about the characters and stories that define "The Purisima" on this moderately-paced, 7-mile loop hike with 1,000-foot elevation gain. See the steep-walled canyons where loggers and entrepreneurs made new lives in the wild redwood forest. Join docents Vern Selvy and Liz Farnsworth as you discover the deeply shaded redwoods, year round streams, and incredible ocean views. Reservations are required and will be accepted on or after September 25. Meet at the Higgins-Purisima entrance located south of Half Moon Bay. From the Highway 92 and Highway 1 intersection, travel south on Highway 1 approximately 4.3 miles. Turn left on Verde Road. After turning on Verde Rd. and traveling -mile, continue straight to remain on what becomes Purisima Creek Road. (Verde Rd. splits off to the right.) Travel approximately 3.7 miles on Purisima Creek Rd. to reach the Preserve. Parking is available for approximately 5 cars.
