Artistic Director Javier Dzul’s diverse company hails from many different parts of the world and has performed with a vast array of companies including the Martha Graham Company, Cirque du Soleil, Ballet Nacional de Mexico, Eliot Feld Ballet, Korean National Ballet Company, Buglisi Dance Theater and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. With this eclectic and talented group, Javier Dzul has created a movement vocabulary that embodies his own unique style, and pushes the boundaries of the human body and imagination.
A special addition to Dzul Dance 2011 opening weekend is Rosas y Espinas (Roses and Thorns) an evening of solo, duet and group repertory from 2005-2009 performances, choreographed to Latin music. The dances are a celebration of iconic Mexico, featuring everything from classical Mexican love songs, to big-band salsa, to iconic figures such as Emiliano Zapata, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, as well as historic Mexican cultural traditions such as the Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Rosas y Espinas is an idyllic program for aficionados of Mexican culture, Latin music lovers and hopeless romantics.
