Drew Smith draws inspiration from Van Morrison, Steely Dan and Paul Simon. His songwriting is distinctly original with a style that relies on maintaining a pop sensibility and staying true to the singer/songwriter aesthetic. At the same time, he experiments with more sophisticated musical devices such as odd time signatures and jazz influenced melodies. Smith's love of classic R&B prompted the makeup of his seven-piece band. His partnership with Matt Russell - arranger/band leader/keyboardist - has helped bring this band to reach a professional level unmatched in the Austin local scene. The songs depend on Russell's tight arrangements and together, the two musicians have assembled a soulful band that provides an exceptional and unique listening experience.
