Returning to Chalkfarm Park for its second year, Dusk Dances features exciting hits from our past repertoire as well as a new youth commission, a new emerging artist commission, and the popular Black Ice Step Team. Our full Chalkfarm lineup includes:
• First nation’s dancer and choreographer Santee Smith’s Kaha:wi, a piece celebrating the feminine spirit and Iroquoian traditions.
• Award-winning stepping group Black Ice Step Team’s Ice Movements, an African gumboot dance of clapping, stepping, and chanting.
• Kate Franklin and Meredith Thompson’s Get On Board, where four vagabond tap dancers flaunt their fancy footwork to make a buck or two.
• Emerging hip-hop artist Irvin Washington ‘s The Glamorous Life, a piece that strives to bring awareness to a life of drugs, sex, poverty, alcohol, and the struggle to cope.
• Choreographer Natasha Eck’s Out of Many, One People, a performance from the first ever Dusk Dances Summer Camp, with ten young dancers representing the youthful voice of today.
Award-winning ‘percussion posse’ Samba Squad will kick off each evening’s performance with their global groove and host Blakka Ellis will lead the audience through Chalkfarm Park to the unique locations and five diverse dance pieces.
Dusk Dances Chalkfarm Park is produced in partnership with Doorsteps Neighbourhod Services.
