Duet for Abdelrazik June 19, 2012

A group of Montreal musicians are set to release Duets for Abdelrazik at the Suoni per il Popolo music festival, a full album of recordings aiming to express musical solidarity with the struggle of Abousfian Abdelrazik for justice.

Abdelrazik is the Sudanese-Canadian jailed on the recommendation of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) in Sudan, after over six years in forced exile in Sudan and years of imprisonment without charge.

In an effort to honor Abdelrazik's struggle for justice, the Duets for Abdelrazik album is a project of sonic solidarity.

"It is difficult to describe in words both the horror of torture but also the sustained determination sustained by Abdelrazik in the struggle for justice," outlines musician and community activist Stefan Christoff, "we came together as Montreal artists to recorded Duets for Abdelrazik in an attempt to illuminate and celebrate Abdelrazik’s struggle for freedom."

Howl arts collective is excited to launch the Duets for Abdelrazik album at the Suoni per il Popolo cultural festival in Montreal on June 19, 2012.

The album includes music by celebrated musician composer Sam Shalabi, who will be traveling from Cairo, Egypt to Montreal for the performance. Also the album includes the music of Peter Burton, director of the Suoni per il Popolo festival, on contrabass, cellist Rebecca Foon, artist Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, also known as Jerusalem in My Heart and violinist and writer Norman Nawrocki.
