DucKon proudly introduces Young Fan guest, Katie Goldman
Katie Goldman became a national symbol of girl geekdom when she came home from school one day and told her mom that other kids were giving her a tough time for bringing a Star Wars: The Clone Wars water bottle to school. The story from her mother's blog went viral, and got the attention of Catherine Taber, the actress who voices the role of Padme Amidala on The Clone Wars. A movement of students, teachers, parents, and fans emerged promote the idea that fandom and individuality was okay and that bullying was not. Many schools and fan communities celebrated December 10 as a "Proud to Be Me Day" wearing Star Wars or other media and science fiction-related gear. Duckon is honored to have Katie come to Duckon this year to talk about her experience as a young fan.
