Drupal Means Business is aimed at companies and organisations of all sizes to introduce them to Drupal, the open source technology platform which so far powers three per cent of all websites on the internet, including some of the world’s busiest sites.
Run alongside DrupalCamp North West, a wider event organised by the North West Drupal User Group (NWDUG) in partnership with The University of Salford, for Drupal enthusiasts, ‘Drupal Means Business’ is an event for business people who want to improve their digital profile and better understand the workings of the technology that can help them.
The complimentary event is billed as an introduction to Drupal but is also an opportunity for North West businesses, charities, education and local authorities to access free consultancy from some of the keenest minds in digital.
There will be workshop sessions, including case study presentations, to promote understanding held by representatives from The British Council, Manchester United Soccer Schools, Epilepsy Action and other leading businesses. These workshops are billed as a ‘show and tell’ on how large organisations use Drupal. The representatives will lift the bonnets on their organisations’ websites, revealing the thought processes and practicalities involved in building them and how Drupal is commonly used to solve problems and achieve real results.
Networking sessions will also run during the event to allow visitors to discuss how they can improve their digital presence with individual experts. The keynote speaker is Martin Bryant, managing editor of ‘The Next Web’ and regular contributor to BBC Breakfast, BBC World Service’s Newshour, The Independent and the Channel 4 News website.
Event co-organiser and head of development for digital consultancy, Livelink, Paul Johnson comments: “The open source community is known for its inclusive approach and anyone who wants to learn more about Drupal and how it can benefit their business is more than welcome to join us on the day. This is not a selling exercise for anyone concerned. The professionals involved are giving their time to spread the word and provide a one-off opportunity for businesses to enjoy some free, expert advice.
“For the business user, he or she can find out how other companies have achieved success using Drupal and for the local Government worker, it will help them to develop an understanding of Drupal’s strengths.”
