On April 8th we received a request to help
struggling Seafood Workers…
Seafood workers are unable to harvest the bays
because of new laws and too much fresh water
coming into the bays because of rain…
May 5th we received additional information
that the need for food and supplies for these
workers is of high priority.
Their plight has been topped by the recent
disaster whereas Seafood workers will now be
facing dire times with long term impact if the oil
spill hits Franklin and Wakulla Counties .
This is a viable concern (and State of emergency has been declared for Wakulla county) and preparative measures are being implemented now.
The bays will not be viable for years and it was
pointed out that Alaska still has repercussions from
the Exxon Spill.
Additionally, food pantries in Wakulla County have
been supplying residents with basic food supplies
and needs, however with the severity of the economic decline and high unemployment rate resources of food banks are being depleted quickly.
One of our local food banks is at Ocklockonee
Bay United Methodist Church 2780 Surf Road,
Ochlockonee Bay , FL 32346
We are setting up several onsite containers at
The Frog and The Hummingbird Co &
Butterfield’s Roadhouse as a drop off site for
1) The Food Bank with priority for struggling Seafood
Workers, 2) for CHAT and 3) for Care Packages for
Struggling Artists on a regional and national realm…
As a result of the ongoing needs and high demand
for food and supplies we will be adding to the cost
of each of our events one non-perishable food item
or pet need.
You can also purchase and donate an Angel
Food Signature Box

O'Bay UMC location. This service is available to
everyone.
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit,
non-denominational organization dedicated to
providing food relief and financial support to
communities throughout the United States
The Citizens for Humane Animal Treatment of
Wakulla, Inc., known as CHAT of Wakulla is a
not-for-profit, charitable corporation. They are a
tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of
the Internal Revenue Code. Their Articles of
Incorporation were filed on August 8, 2001.
They are committed to improving the health, safety,
and well-being of domesticated animals in our
community. Their roots are in the former Wakulla
Humane Society, an organization that had been
active for over 30 years. CHAT recently contracted
with the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office and now
operates the animal adoption center at 1 Oak Street , Crawfordville , FL , 32327 . You can reach them by phone at (850) 926-0890 or (850) 926-0891
CHAT has helped families affected by the
economy recently who have dogs or cats that they cannot afford to feed but do not want
to give them up and would devastated
to do so.
CHAT have supplied them with dog food
and cat food to help keep the animals out
of the shelter. As CHAT now has a contract
with Science Diet dog/cat food they can
purchase pet food cheaper than buying from
stores, and can help more animals with the
monetary donations.
Therefore, funding is an important donation.
However, there are many ways to assist.
