A 72 year old, rich, sharp-tongued Jewish widow is forced by her son to use the services of a chauffer. Hoke, the chauffer, is a thoughtful, gentle, unemployed black man. Over a period of 25 years their relationship goes from latent prejudicial disdain to mutual respect and friendship.
