For the last three years, Dr. Sketchy's has been the ultimate in alternative life-drawing. The event combines cabaret and art school, and with branches from Paris to Tokyo, Dr. Sketchy's has become the largest chain of drawing classes in the world. Now, Sketchy's is joining forces with America's most notorious underground artists.
At a Dr. Sketchy's class, artists draw glamorous, scantily constumed underground performers, compete in contests, and win booze and prizes. Sessions are hosted by artist Molly Crabapple.
On February 14th, we launched our artstar series. Dr. Sketchy's will treat attendees to sessions styled after some of the county's most talented and infamous underground artists. Famed street artist Ron English was our first guest artist
On May 9th, Artstar Sketchy's returns with a tribute to baroque surrealist David Stoupakis. Sketchers will be treated to a trip inside Stoupakis's imagination. His muse Apella will reenact his infamous "Red Ribbon" painting with a sexy twist. The music is curated by Stoupakis, and he will be appearing in person to sign merch.
The Dr. Sketchy's ArtStar series will continue throughout 2009.
