Jazz Hall of Fame inductee and VSU alumnus Dr. William (Billy) Taylor ('42) returns to his alma mater for an Alumni Weekend concert on Friday, May 14 at 7 p.m. in Virginia Hall's Anderson-Turner Auditorium. Proceeds from the event will support the Billy Taylor Endowed Scholarship.
Reserved VIP tickets, which include a VIP Reception, are $150 apiece. Reserved seating tickets are $100. General admission tickets are $50. Students or those under 21-years-old can purchase a ticket for $25.
Taylor is a renowned international jazz musician and educator, has performed alongside jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis. Taylor recently established the Dr. Billy Taylor Kappa Alpha Psi Endowment Fund at VSU. The endowment aims to attract and provide financial rewards to students enrolled in, and matriculating to, VSU.
Taylor, a VSU Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. alumnus, has served as the Artistic Director for Jazz at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC and the Robert L. Jones Distinguished Professor of Music at East Carolina University. He recently donated a collection of his life's work to VSU, including recordings, tapes, CDs, papers and books.
