Special Events Concerts on the Green 2009 Series Diamond is Forever: July 10th Scott Martin Latin Soul Band: July 17th The Farmers: July 24th Bill Magee: July 31st 6:008:00pm The annual Concerts on the Green weekly free summer concert series, featuring live music for all ages, continues on Fridays in July from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on the Prescott Promenade in Downtown El Cajon, brought to you by the El Cajon CDC. The original, entertaining and highly popular Ed Waymire returns as Master of Ceremonies. Free to the public, Concerts on the Green is offered every Friday evening through September 4, 2009. Conductor sponsors are Sycuan Casino, Taylor Guitar, Cymer, Toyota of El Cajon, and Cox. The family-oriented Concerts on the Green features top entertainers in a friendly park setting; from blues to rock, jazz to swing, there is something for every type of music lover. Admission is free to the Cajon Classic Cruise car show featuring more than 500 classic, custom and hot rod cars valued at more than $10 million in a street festival setting every Wednesday evening through September 30. Presented by the non-profit El Cajon Community Development Corporation, the Cajon Classic Cruise offers new attractions each week, including great bands, costume contests, specialty and race cars, parades, and special salutes. Themed events include Bike Night, National Night Out, British Invasion and many more. Cajon Classic Cruise will also feature special entertainment, raffles, and much, much moredont miss a single week! Galleries have showings Theaters have special shows Retail businesses have open houses, feature promotions and special activities. Volunteer Opportunities Julys Lend A Hand Saturday Morning Clean-up! Saturday, July 31st 9:00 11:00 am 376 West Park Avenue-Park West Apartments Spend your Saturday morning making a difference in Downtown El Cajon! Join our team of volunteers as we remove trash and identify graffiti in downtown neighborhoods to keep them clean, safe, and inviting. El Cajon CDC will collect your electronic waste to be properly recycled. San Diego Rescue Mission will also gladly accept any usable items that you would like to donate. Tax deductible donations such as working electronics, furniture, household articles, baby items, or clothes will be collected and turned into hope for families in need. Thank you for improving the quality of life in Downtown El Cajon! Paint a Utility Box. Build community pride and beautify Downtown El Cajon. May 1stJuly 30th Downtown El Cajon Art and the community it creates is at the heart of igniting culture, communicating history and values, stimulating economic development, and building community pride. Transform common utility boxes into works of public art for all to enjoy through UArt: Downtown El Cajons Utility Art Box Program. If youre an art lover and / or community enthusiast, volunteer your artistic talent to UArt and share your community spirit to beautify the Downtown El Cajon landscape for years to come. Youll also help deter graffiti from Downtown neighborhoods and celebrate the uniqueness of place and people. Volunteering at the El Cajon CDC The El Cajon Community Development Corporation is a nonprofit community - based organization working to ensure the economic vitality of Downtown El Cajon. We take a comprehensive approach to a healthy downtown and all of our programs work toward this goal. Administrative Volunteers are accepted year-round and are called upon on an as-needed basis. Duties include answering phones, filing, making phone calls to update records, preparing binders/packets and assisting with special projects. Previous experience is not required, and volunteers must be available during office hours (Monday - Friday 8:30 am 5:00 pm). Potential volunteers are required to attend our Volunteer Orientation, held on the First Friday of each month, is required before service begins.
