Doubt, one of Broadway's most honored new plays, makes its Oahu debut on stage at Manoa Valley Theatre January 16. Winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for drama and 2005 Tony Award for Best Play, this is a powerful parable about paranoia and pedophilia in the Catholic Church that will leave audience members deep in discussion long after the curtain has fallen.
Set in a parochial school in the Bronx in 1964, the play is shaped as a battle of wills between the severe, absolutist Sister Aloysius and the more doctrinally flexible Father Flynn. As Sister pursues her intuition that the priest is molesting a boy in her school, the play presents a balance of conflicting viewpoints through a wrenching exploration of thought and personality. It is a dramatic and provocative study of the tenuous nature of faith and the inconstancy of justice.
Doubt is guest directed by Vanita Rae Smith. Performing in the show are Melanie Garcia, Anette Kauahikaua, Russell Motter and Jo Pruden.
