Intermedia group DOUBLE VISION and Amy Lewis split an evening of innovative dance, video, and sound. The performance will showcase works inspired by disembodied heads, mapping of social and mathematical structures, and survival strategies of Pier 39's waltzing sea lions.
Both DOUBLE VISION and Amy Lewis rely on intermedia concepts to inform their work and bridge a variety of artistic disciplines and ideas. Collaborations between choreographer, composer, animator and costume designer are essential to their work.
DOUBLE VISION will premiere "Fog is not Ghost," along with the restaging of "...as if by Falling" and "Disembodied Head, No. 4." "Disembodied Head, No. 4" is part of a collection of pieces that utilizes interactive technologies to depict moments of separation between body and mind. In the performance animated heads and physical performers interact with each other on stage and screen in an attempt to become one complete being.
Amy Lewis derives much of her choreographic material from musical and visual art theories, including the three works she will be premiering, "The Hog and Feather," "Fugue no. 4 in C sharp minor BMV873 by J.S. Bach," and "Color Theory." The last piece is based on Kandinsky's ideas regarding the effects of color on the spiritual body. According to Kandinsky, colors carry a resonance that informs the emotional state of the observer. When translating Kandinsky's ideas about color to movement, dynamic and rhythmic shifts become pronounced.
