The breakthrough thinking of Trevor and Ryan Oakes is a combination of many smaller discoveries. Among them: that we don't see the world as a flat plane or window, but as if the world were curved around us, like a sphere, with the viewer at its center. Another discovery: because we see the world with two eyes, when we look beyond a foreground object to focus in the distance, that object splits into a double "ghost image." This special easel helps the artists trace the space directly onto that "ghost image" to recreate a three-dimensional scene with amazing accuracy.
