Double Feature: 90th Anniversary! OUR HOSPITALITY, 1923, Cohen Media, 73 min. Dirs. John G. Blystone, Buster Keaton. The famous Hatfields & McCoys feud is the basis for this landmark film, one of Keaton’s earliest - and most successful - attempts to bring dramatic weight and visual complexity to his comedy without sacrificing the laughs. Building on a classic action-movie structure, Buster supplies some of his most dazzling pieces of hilarious spectacle, including a train riding up and down the hills of Pennsylvania with comic elegance.
90th Anniversary! THREE AGES, 1923, Cohen Media, 63 min. Dirs. Edward F. Cline, Buster Keaton. Buster parodies D.W. Griffith’s INTOLERANCE with this trio of stories set in various time periods: the Stone Age, the Roman Empire and 1923. In all three epochs, Buster tries to win the same girl away from his rival, and the result is vintage Keaton hilarity, aided by co-star Wallace Beery. With live piano accompaniment by Cliff Retallick.
