Dorkbot is a technological arts organization made up of local chapters around the world where artists, engineers, programmers, and others share their work with the public and their peers. The motto of Dorkbot is "people doing strange things with electricity."
The September meeting of Dorkbot DC will be held at the Marian Koshland Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences, and will have presentations by three artists.
Mechatronic and robotic artist Thomas Edwards will present his work "Touch" which allows two individuals to physically touch each other over the Internet. During the meeting, Edwards will demonstrate touching fingers between Washington, DC, and Toronto, Canada.
Conrad Barski will present his work on the PicnicMob.Org web site. PicnicMob is a concept to create "flash mob" picnics in parks of major U.S. cities, but it assigns each participant to a location in the park so that they are near other participants with similar interests (calculated using simulated annealing).
Interactive video artist Philip Kohn will discus some of his new work that combines live video cameras with computers to place participants in virtual worlds.
