At 7.30 pm on Friday 17 July 2009 there will be a WWII Music Hall in the Corn Exchange – “Kiss Me Goodnight Sergeant Major” - performed by a professional troupe.
Tickets are £10 and will be on sale at points in the town and from Dorchester RNA (full details yet to be published). On the Saturday The Keep Military Museum will be open from 1000 to 1630 with “quiz trails” for children. Entrance will be free for children under 9, £2 for children aged 9 to 16, £4 for those 60 and over & full time students and £6.00 for adults.
Serving personnel, members of the RNA, RBL & RAFA, and ex-service personnel from the Police, Fire & Rescue, Ambulance and Prison Services will march in the town on the Sunday morning, 19 July, led by Wessex Military Band. The parade will start from North Square at 1130, march down South Street and return to the TA Centre at Poundbury Road via Trinity Street, High Street West and Bridport Road. Lunch for participants will be at the TA Centre.
In the afternoon there will be Music in the Borough Gardens with 1940s and other music provided by Wessex Military Band, the Durnovaria Silver Band and the Dorchester Big Band (tbc). There will be stalls in the Gardens promoting the RNA, RBL, SSAFA etc showing how they support veterans. A stall will be manned by a local historian and show Dorchester’s Contribution to WWI. The Police, Fire & Rescue, Ambulance and Prison Services will have stalls and The TA a display. There are many car parks in the Town Centre with the most convenient being the Top of Town car park close the The Keep Military Museum.
