Relax and bring balance and peace to your mind, body and spirit when you attend a three-day T’ai Chi Chih moving meditation and retreat at the Dominican Sisters of Houston Retreat Center on Thursday-Sunday, April 22-25. The retreat begins with an evening meal at 6 p.m. on Thursday and ends after a noon meal on Sunday.
T’ai Chi Chih, originated by Justin Stone, is a set of 19 gentle movements and one pose completely focused on the development of an intrinsic energy call ‘Chi’ in Chinese.
Sister Antonio Cooper, OSF, from San Antonio, will be the T’ai Chi Chih Guide for the weekend.
“T’ai Chi Chih improves concentration and lessens stress and can be done by anyone, regardless of age or physical ability,” said Sr. Cooper. “You will learn form, along with some of the benefits that may be attained through daily practice: regulated blood pressure, greater balance and ease of movement, interior quiet and focus – a good preparation for prayer.”
Stone considers balancing the Intrinsic Energy or ‘Chi’ as one of the great secrets of life. Stone traveled extensively to the Far East and taught T'ai Chi Ch'uan for many years before he originated T'ai Chi Chih. In a short period, mostly via word-of-mouth, T'ai Chi Chih has spread throughout the world. There are now more than 2,200 accredited teachers.
The Dominican Sisters of Houston is a Catholic community of women whose mission is “to publicly commit ourselves to study and address the crucial justice issues of our times.” The sisers’ active ministries include teaching and school administration, hospital chaplaincy, prayer, campus ministry and parish ministry.
