One of the most popular and highly recognized standup comedians on the road today has also made quite an impression in the feature film and television arena. Next up for D.L: he will appear in a one-hour comedy special for HBO entitled "Unapologetic." The special will premiere on HBO on September 22nd. D.L currently stars in BET's hilarious hit "S.O.B."; a hidden camera show that tests the value systems of people. D.L. has also starred in the Aaron Sorkin drama series for NBC "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." The comedic drama showed the behind-the-scenes politics of a fictional broadcast network's flagship late-night comedy series. D.L. starred as long-standing cast member "Simon Stiles" alongside an all star ensemble cast that includes Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet and Steven Weber.
D.L. Hughley spent four successful years starring in his own sitcom "The Hughleys," and he shows no signs of slowing down. In 2005-2006, D.L. hosted his own late night talk show for Comedy Central "Weekends at the DL". The talk show fulfilled one of D.L.'s dreams to host his own late night talk show. Also currently airing on Comedy Central is D.L.'s one-hour comedy special "Shocked and Appalled." On the CD side, D.L.'s long-awaited comedy CD Notes From the GED Section is currently available.
It was the mega-hit "ORIGINAL KINGS OF COMEDY" that launched D.L. into superstardom. The film, based on the 1999 tour featuring D.L., Bernie Mac, Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer, garnered close to $40 million at the box office and became one of the highest selling DVDs in 2001. In 1999 comedians D.L., Bernie, Steve and Cedric embarked on this national tour, which sold out most of the major concert arenas in over 50 cities across the country.
