“The scratch.” It’s a skill that no DJ today does without, but someone had to invent it. Over his 30-something years as a DJ, he has invented several turntable techniques, party rocked for crowds of all ages, and even dabbled in sound performance art. He and the crew at Scratch DJ Academy will give you the rundown of how this art form took shape and blew up into a major sector of today’s music industry.

After you’ve heard the history, it’s time to hit the turntables. GrandWizzard Theodore will kick off the session in style with a showcase. Once you’re feeling inspired, get behind your own DJ station with a couple of turntables and a mixer. You’ll get a handle of the basics with some pro tips thrown in from the GrandWizzard himself.

Then it’s game time! Close out the evening with a DJ battle to win a sweet prize. Bonus points if you end up inventing your own technique. Come prepared to share your DJ name.
