“Looking for Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, 1950’s kitsch, vintage clothing, Industrial/machine age, Canadiana, shabby chic, glass, silverware or jewelry, you are sure to find that special treasure at the Meister Markt Fall Antiques and Collectables Show and Car Boot Sale,” states Angela Koszuta, Founder and Producer, Meister Markt. “The ultimate in green living and recycling, you will find vintage advertising, rustic Canadiana, a wide range of lighting fixtures, oak furniture, pressed glass, vintage toys and collectables.”
With over 150 vendors selling all types of unique and unusual antiques and collectables in over 43,000 square feet of indoor space and 150,000 square feet of outdoor space, there’s something for everyone. The vendors will be selling military antiques, native art, antique sporting goods, Canadiana, vintage advertising materials, reclaimed wood, salvaged building materials, windows, ladders, wood boxes, vintage textiles, art deco antiques, mid-century antiques, pine furniture, tools, jewelry, watches, coins, gold, marbles, toys, vintage clothing and bakelite.
“You will find an eclectic mix of 50 per cent antiques (items older than 100 years) and 50 per cent mid-century collectables throughout the show,” states Andrew Zegers, Meister Markt Show Manager, Antique Dealer and former Canadian Antiques Roadshow expert.
Vendors include: Andrew Zegers (Murano glass and 1920's-70's collectables); Ken Aubrey (Vintage Advertizing); Sauble Beach Antiques, formerly Red Indian Art Deco (1930's-70's collectables and art deco); Patricia Green (exquisite vintage clothing, jewelry and textiles); Sam&Sally Stuart (Canadiana, eclectic collectables);Settler's Way Antiques (Canadiana, native art, primitives); Patty George Pressed Glass (1880's glass); Alan Hoyt Antiques Markham; Quinte Antique Mall; Breakaway Antiques (antique tools); The Nostalgia Guy (collectable tin toys); and Blemora Antiques (Native antiques and art) to name a few.
A highlight of this twice-annual show, the Meister Markt Car Boot Sale features a traditional English style market where people sell their old stuff right out of the back of their cars. These vendors are non-professionals, who have amassed too many antiques and collectables and, for only $40, get to clear out their homes, garages and attics, perfect for people who are downsizing.
“With many unique vendors in one spot, you never know what you will find at the fantastic Meister Markt Car Boot Sale,” adds Zegers.
TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL SHOPPING AT THE THIRD ANNUAL MEISTER MARKT:
1. Set some priorities and make a list of some antiques and collectibles you are looking for.
2. Decide how much you are willing to pay for items on your wish list. Search online to see what similar items are selling for.
3. If you are looking for a specific item, arrive early. The best items are often snatched up quickly as serious shoppers will be waiting for the gates to open.
4. If you are looking for bargains, dealers are often more willing to make a deal at the end of the day.
5. Make quick decisions. Few dealers will hold an item while you take time to think about it.
6. Look closely at chairs and sofas that are not in perfect shape. The best discoveries are often missing their upholstery.
7. Turn chairs over and look in drawers for special labels or stamps. Furniture makers often marked their furniture.
8. The type of dovetailing, joints and ridging are also important for determining the age of a piece of furniture.
9. Look for signs of wear and tear and markings. If something is used and not reproduced, it would show signs of aging, like scratches.
10. Look for metal content for jewelry and silver as this helps with appraisals.
“The Meister Markt Fall Antiques and Collectables Show and Car Boot Sale is an indoor and outdoor show but if it starts to rain, we move the whole show indoors so you can stay warm and dry,” adds Koszuta. “The thrill is in the hunt for a one-of-a-kind treasure!”
