Mendelssohn composed an overture inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1826, and in 1843 he was commissionedto write incidental music for a German stage production. He added the overture, and both were used in most stage versions through the 19th Century. This program explores the incidental pieces including the familiar Wedding March.
