The American version of Mah Jongg (or Mahj), a rummy-like game played with tiles rather than cards that originated in China, rose to popularity in the Jewish community in the early 20th century. This Mahj ClubTM Beginner Class Series with Master Mahj Maven Sara Linden will cover tile recognition, strategy, and rules. Each student receives an official National Mah Jongg League playing card and will learn how to get their “Mahj on” by the completion of the series. Seating is limited for the three-part series and advance registration is required.
A Mah Jongg enthusiast for over 15 years, Linden is at the forefront of the Gen X Mahj Renaissance. Her early skills were honed alongside her mother, over whom she now regularly triumphs. While Linden’s professional career moved her around the United States from Los Angeles to Charleston to San Francisco, she began creating Mahj clubs to connect with peers in new cities.
