Savannah, Ga. – There’s gonna be a showdown at the Trustees Theater, Saturday, March 13th! Irish traditional music stands off with American Rock from the 60s-80s. Direct from Dublin, the DIT Irish Traditional Music Ensemble face our hardrocking choristers and band in an exciting, fun and nostalgic musical journey.
10 musicians from the DIT Irish Traditional Music Ensemble & 4 of their teachers (John Feeley, Odhran O'Casaide, Willie Halpin & Kerry Houston) arriving Monday from Dublin, Ireland. The ensemble has ilan pipes, harp, accordion, flute, fiddle, bodhran, guitar, vocalists and dancers. They will be performing several Irish traditional pieces at the concert on Saturday night. John Feeley who, in the words of Peter Shannon, is the "Eric Clapton of Irish Traditional music" will perform that evening.
While in town, the Savannah Philharmonic has coordinated several educational outreach opportunities for the group in conjunction with Cultural Ireland & DIT Arts. They will perform at Mercer Middle School in Garden City for the 6th & 8th grade classes; then for the education group at the Jepson Center for the Arts; and finally at Charles Ellis Montessori School.
The fearless Savannah Philharmonic Chorus is not daunted by the task (okay, maybe we are just a little bit) of going up against these amazing, up-and-coming musicians to represent American Rock & Pop music from the 60s through 80s. We'll be singing faves from Billy Joel, the Beach Boys, Gloria Gaynor, the Carpenters, Bobby Darin, plus some of our own Irish tunes! There's a rock band with guitar, bass, drums & piano.
Tickets for ”St. Pat’s Pops” are $15 - $35 with a $5 discount for children 12 and under & students. Call 912.525.5050 or order online at www.savannahboxoffice.com. For more information about the Savannah Philharmonic, visit us online at www.thesavphilharmonic.org.
